We know paying for medical care can be difficult, particularly for patients who don't have health insurance. As part of our ongoing commitment to our patients, we work hard to help you address your financial responsibilities in a way that's fair and sensitive to your circumstances.
Charity Care Program
We've instituted a program designed especially to help those who find themselves in financial distress. We provide financial counseling to help patients gain access to government sources of medical assistance, including Medicaid, Healthy Kids and other local, state and federal programs.
Portsmouth Regional Hospital's charity care policy applies to uninsured patients who come to our facilities for emergency treatment. This policy provides financial relief on a case-by-case basis to patients who qualify based on a comparison of their financial resources and/or income to federal poverty guidelines. Specifically, for nonelective care, patients whose household financial resources and/or income is at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level receive free care.
New Hampshire Health Access Program
Uninsured and underinsured residents of New Hampshire can complete a single application to participate in this program to improve access to healthcare offered by a network of affiliated hospitals and providers in the state. If you qualify for the program, assistance remains in effect for 12 months and applies to medical visits at participating facilities and providers. The ID card you receive shows your acceptance into the program and the level of your assistance.
The staff at Portsmouth Regional Hospital work to determine the most appropriate assistance program for your circumstances. We also provide and help you complete the application and screening process. In some instances, you may be asked to provide us with information to help verify your income and other resources so we can complete the application.
Financial Discount Program
Our financial discount program is designed for uninsured patients who don't qualify for Medicaid, charity care or any other discount program offered by our facilities and whose household financial resources and/or income is more than 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. These patients receive a bill that reflects a discount from total charges.
We'll work with patients who have financial challenges to establish an appropriate payment plan based on the amount due and the patient's financial status. For us to offer discounts and other financial relief, please recognize that patients will be asked to cooperate with our financial counselors by providing essential financial information. Language translation services are available.
Information regarding the financial discount policy is available in the ER at Portsmouth Regional Hospital or in the emergency department of any HCA wholly owned hospital.
