Are you coming to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for emergency care, inpatient care, day surgery or an outpatient diagnostic test? The registration procedure is different depending on the reason for your visit, but in all cases we try to make your registration a quick and easy process.

Emergency Care

In an emergency, you should call 911 photo of doctor with patientand proceed directly to our fully-staffed, 24 hour Emergency Center.

When urgent but less life-threatening care is needed, walk-in services are available in our Emergency Center 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You should be familiar with your insurance plan's policy about emergency care. Many require authorization from your primary care physician before seeking emergency care. If you don't call your doctor first, you may be responsible for paying any and all emergency care costs. At Portsmouth Regional Hospital, emergency care is provided to all people, regardless of their health insurance or ability to pay.

Inpatient Admissions

Patients are admitted to Portsmouth Regional Hospital by a doctor or therapist on our staff. Our Patient Handbook provides detailed information about Hospital facilities, services and policies. To register for an inpatient stay, please call Admitting: (603) 433-4016. On the day you leave the hospital, we encourage you to plan for an 11 AM discharge time.

Surgery Admissions

Each type of surgery, and each patient, requires different preparation and information. Please talk to the nurse or surgical coordinator in your surgeon's office for detailed instructions about their registration, admissions and discharge process -- as well as specific instructions about preparing for surgery.

Non-surgical Outpatient Admissions

Many procedures are perfomed on anoutpatient basisat Portsmouth Regional Hospital, by referral from a member ofour medical staff. Because the admission procedure varies depending on the service you're receiving, you should talk to a nurse in the doctor's office that made the referral.The nursewill provide you with detailed information about your treatment and the admissions process.

Heart & Lung Center

The Heart & Lung Center is a regional center for comprehensive cardiac care and surgery, offering state of the art facilities and a world-class team of cardiac surgeons and cardiologists. The Heart & Lung Center’s registration desk, located in the first floor lobby of the Shoals Building, will guide you through the process of admission for many tests and inpatient procedures.
