Are you coming to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for emergency care, inpatient care, day surgery or an outpatient diagnostic test? The registration procedure is different depending on the reason for your visit, but in all cases we try to make your registration a quick and easy process.
In an emergency, you should call 911 and proceed directly to our fully-staffed, 24 hour Emergency Center.
When urgent but less life-threatening care is needed, walk-in services are available in our Emergency Center 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You should be familiar with your insurance plan's policy about emergency care. Many require authorization from your primary care physician before seeking emergency care. If you don't call your doctor first, you may be responsible for paying any and all emergency care costs. At Portsmouth Regional Hospital, emergency care is provided to all people, regardless of their health insurance or ability to pay.
Patients are admitted to Portsmouth Regional Hospital by a doctor or therapist on our staff. Our Patient Handbook provides detailed information about Hospital facilities, services and policies. To register for an inpatient stay, please call Admitting: (603) 433-4016. On the day you leave the hospital, we encourage you to plan for an 11 AM discharge time.
Each type of surgery, and each patient, requires different preparation and information. Please talk to the nurse or surgical coordinator in your surgeon's office for detailed instructions about their registration, admissions and discharge process -- as well as specific instructions about preparing for surgery.
