Mayo A Noerdlinger, MD
After finishing his residency at Brown University, Dr. Noerdlinger spent a year in Chicago completing a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. During this year, he was exposed in great depth to the diagnosis and treatment of common and complex shoulder problems. Historically lagging behind innovations made in the treatment of hip and knee pain, the field of shoulder surgery has undergone tremendous advances in the past ten years. He considers himself fortunate to have been trained during this era and be able to share the modern advances of shoulder surgery with his patients. Arthroscopic techniques not only minimize pain and allow outpatient surgery but are revolutionizing the treatment of certain shoulder conditions that were previously thought only to be treated with painful open major surgeries. Historically thought to be an inferior surgery compared to hip and knee replacement surgery, shoulder replacements now hold their own with respect to patient outcomes and longevity. The advent of reverse shoulder replacements has offered surgeons and patients an option for debilitating painful shoulders in the setting of rotator cuff tears. As an orthopaedic surgeon in the Seacoast, Dr. Noerdlinger is a team physician at the University of New Hampshire and a faculty member at UNH and the University of New England. He also volunteers at multiple high schools in the Seacoast area.
