Intensive Care Unit
Intensive Care Unit
At Portsmouth Regional Hospital, we recognize that having a loved one in Intensive Care can be a stressful and emotional time for family and loved ones. Patient care is our top priority, but we also care about the family’s comfort and peace of mind. Just outside the ICU (located on the 2nd floor), we offer a comfortable, soothing, private and well-equipped waiting room where family members can read, watch television or talk quietly with other visitors.
This page of our Web site includes guidelines for visiting your loved one and communicating with ICU staff, suggestions about taking care of yourself, and information about hospital resources including our chapel, clergy and cafeteria. We thank you for respecting our guidelines, which were developed to maximize the quality of care each patient receives.
The ICU Provides Specialized Care
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a multidisciplinary unit caring for a variety of patients requiring specialized care. Our patients may be very ill or suffering from trauma. Each deserves our complete focus and attention. The ICU is a locked unit for the privacy, safety and security of our patients. This means that in order to enter the ICU, you will need to use the telephone located outside the door. You will still have access to your loved one, because the well-being of our patients is our top priority.
