Wound Care Center & Hyperbaric Medicine

While most wounds heal quickly, there are specific types of wounds that can cause severe problems. The Wound Care Center offers a comprehensive multi-disciplinary approach with inpatient andoutpatient services that result in earlier recovery, less hospitalization, prevention of prolonged or permanent disability, and a high healing rate for complicated wounds.
To accomplish this, Portsmouth Regional Hospitaloffers hyperbaric medicine, an advanced technology for healing wounds without surgery. In a glass-enclosed hyperbaric chamber, the paitent lies or sits comfortably while inhaling pure oxygen to stimulate wound healing and the growth of healthy tissue. Hyperbaric therapy is painless and non-invasive, and is particularly valuable for patients with diabetes.
The Wound Care Center at Portsmouth Regional Hospital is affiliated with Diversified Clinical Services, the nation's largest wound management company.
While you may receive a referral from a physician to visit our Center, you may also call our clinic if you think you are suffering from a non-healing wound. You may contact us for an appointment by calling 603-433-6994.
What are chronic, non-healing wounds?
The Wound Care Center defines a chronic, non-healingwound as one that does not heal, or at least improve significantly, within four weeks. Current statistics conclude that nearly 5 million Americans are afflicted with chronic, non-healingwounds.
The most common sufferers of chronic wounds are individuals with:
- Non-healing Surgical Wounds -- wounds that won't heal within four weeks
- Pressure Ulcers -- a common side effect of spinal cord injury, arthritis and other immobilizing disorders
- Arterial Ulcers -- a round-shaped wound caused by impaired circulation often seen on the legs or feet
- Diabetes -- there are 23.6 million children and adults in the United States, or 7.8% of the population, who have diabetes
- Venous Insufficiency -- caused by venous stasis, a disease that affects the effective pumping of blood from the legs back to the heart
