Neuro Interventional Radiology
Neuro Interventional Radiology
Interventional Radiology is the clinical subspecialty concerned with the diagnostic radiology of diseases of the central nervous system - brain, head and neck through the use of x-ray, MRI, CT and angiography. The Interventional Neuroradiology Department offers state-of-the-art treatment options to patients with a variety of neurological conditions. Our interventional neuroradiologists perform these procedures; they work collaboratively with neurosurgeons and neurologists to provide a multidisciplinary approach to the care of our patients.
Patients who we treat may have one of the following diagnoses:
Vascular Disease
- Acute stroke
- Intracranial aneurysms
- Subarachnoid hemorrhage
- Symptomatic atherosclerotic disease of the carotid and intracranial arteries
Spine disorders
- Head and neck trauma
- Metastatic spine tumors
- Vertebral body fractures
Treatment options provided by interventional neuroradiology include:
Vascular Disease
- Balloon angioplasty and stent placement
- Endovascular embolization of an aneurysm accomplished by placing coils inside the aneurysm to occlude flow
- Intra-arterial thrombolytics can be administered with six hours of onset of acute stroke
- Thrombectomy with the MERCI or Penumbra device to attempt retrieval of the clot for stroke
A neurologist will determine the appropriate treatment plan for our stroke patients.
Spine Disorders
- Kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty for spinal fractures
- Enhanced vertebroplasty to ablate spinal tumors
