Neurosciences Diagnostic Testing
Portsmouth Regional Hospital’s diagnostics and imaging departments provide advanced equipment and certified professionals to provided top-quality diagnostic testing. Based on the finding from your physical exam, patient history and any previous screening or testing, your physician may order one or more of the following diagnostic tests to determine the specific nature of a suspected neurologic disorder or injury.
The following is a list of common tests performed in the departments:
- Electroencephalogram (EEG, or “Brain Wave Test”)
- Evoked Potentials (EP)
- Visual Evoked Potential (VEP)
- Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SSEP)
- Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER)
- Electromyography (EMG)
- Nerve Conduction Velocity Test (NCV)
Admission by Referral
Admission requires a referral by a physician. The physician will fax over a comprehensive order sheet identifying the services needed. As the patient is evaluated by each appropriate clinician, the chart moves with each him or her from specialist to specialist, ensuring efficiency. A consolidated follow-up report will be sent to the patient’s physician.
