Pre and Post Weight Loss Surgery Support Groups
Pre and Post Weight Loss Surgery Support Groups
Pre-Surgery Support Groups
Becoming a bariatric patient at Portsmouth Regional Hospital begins with attending one of our evening informational sessions.
Once they have decided to pursue a bariatric procedure, they’re required to take part in pre-surgery support groups designed to provide both peer support and information from bariatric team members. At some, they will hear from patients who have already had their surgery. Family members and friends are welcome to attend.
Pre-Surgery Support Groups meet in a hospital classroom from 6:30 to 8 pm on the fourth Monday of each month.
Post-Surgery Support Groups
Following their surgery, bariatric patients are strongly encouraged to attend post-surgery-patient sessions for continuing informational and peer support. Ongoing participation in these groups (open to patients only) has been found to be critical for successful outcomes after surgery. Please keep in mind that all personal information shared in these meetings is confidential.
Post-Surgery Groups meet in a hospital classroom on the second Monday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, followed by 6:30 to 7:30 pm breakout sessions for lap band patients and patients on the Back on Track program.
