Thoracic Surgery

Thoracic Surgery is the surgical specialty for the treatment of diseases of the chest:

  • Benign and malignant tumors of the lung, esophagus, mediastaum, lymph nodes, pleura, and chest wall
  • Abnormalities of the blood vessels of the chest cavity
  • Birth defects of the chest wall and internal chest structures
  • Emphysema
  • Benign diseases of the esophagus including swallowing disorders and reflux disease
  • Acute and chronic infectious diseases of the chest: T.B., histoplasmosis

At Portsmouth Regional Hospital the entire patient experience is extremely important to us; from the patient’s initial physician visit, through preoperative testing, and plan of care, to discharge and comprehensive follow up care.

Patients referred to our service for evaluation receive multi-disciplinary care integrating the expertise of the many specialists involved in diagnosis and treatment of chest disease. These include:
