Portsmouth Regional Hospital expands intensive care unit
Portsmouth Regional Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, has opened six new beds in its intensive care unit, bringing the total number of ICU beds to 25. This expansion will allow Portsmouth Regional Hospital to provide a better patient experience and more resources to care for critically ill and injured patients in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine.
The ICU at Portsmouth Regional Hospital is a vital service for the region. The unit’s care teams are specialized in open heart surgery; extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO); comprehensive stroke care, inclusive of clot retrieval and aneurysm coiling; neurosurgery; and trauma. It is the only hospital in the Greater Seacoast Region to offer this comprehensive range of services.
“Portsmouth Regional Hospital is deeply committed to providing high-quality care and an exceptional experience to our patients,” said Dr. Brian Sanders, chief medical officer of Portsmouth Regional Hospital. “This ICU expansion allows us to provide for even more patients who require complex care, helping them stay close to home and their support networks.”
Portsmouth Regional Hospital opened several new ICU and cardiac stepdown unit beds in 2022. This latest six-bed expansion completes the unit, bringing the hospital to a total of 240 beds.
