Portsmouth Regional Hospital accepted 24 new residents to its 2024 program in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Psychiatry residencies on what is known in academic medicine as Match Day. The new residents will begin their programs on July 1, 2024. This is the fourth year of the graduate medical education program.
“In the world of academic medicine, our program is still relatively new,” said Dean M. Carucci, chief executive officer of Portsmouth Regional Hospital. “But in just a few short years, we have gained a great deal of momentum and received a high volume of applicants for this year’s residency programs. We’re excited to have matched with medical students for all 24 slots again this year, which we believe is a testament to the strength and reputations of both HCA Healthcare, and Portsmouth Regional Hospital as leaders in training, mentoring and preparing tomorrow’s physician workforce.”
The family and internal medicine residencies, which are both three-year programs, received accreditation in 2020 from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and graduated its first residents last year. The psychiatry residency’s four-year program was accredited by the ACGME in 2021, and the first class in the psychiatry residency will graduate in 2025.
The residents come from 20 medical schools, 10 states, and nine countries outside the US. Following are the 24 residents accepted to the program in 2024:
