Medical weight loss at Portsmouth Regional Hospital
Medical weight loss — sometimes called non-surgical weight loss — is a structured and medically supervised program designed to help you lose weight.
At Portsmouth Regional Hospital, our team uses a combination of medications, specialized nutrition and exercise to promote weight loss and improved health. Through our Medical Weight Loss Program, you can access a specially trained team of nurse practitioners, registered dietitians and physical therapists.
Medical weight loss works for many people. Some people, however, may benefit from weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery). Our comprehensive Medical Weight Loss Program can be used as your primary weight loss option, or as part of a surgical weight loss plan.
Whatever path you take to achieve a healthier weight, lifestyle changes are essential to your long-term success.

The benefits of a medical weight loss program
Nonsurgical weight loss programs can significantly improve your health and well–being. You can expect the following:
- Improved physical health: Losing weight can reduce your risk of developing chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.
- Increase energy: Carrying excess weight can make you feel sluggish and tired. Losing weight can improve your energy levels, making staying active throughout the day easier.
- Better mental health: Struggling with weight can affect your mental health, leading to low self-esteem and depression. Losing weight can improve your confidence and self–image, leading to better mental health.
- Long–term weight loss: Establishing healthy habits leads to sustained weight loss and improved health.
