Portsmouth Regional Hospital November 20, 2019

Portsmouth, NH –  Portsmouth Regional Hospital has achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (COERS) by Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), making it the first and only hospital in New Hampshire with this designation.

Healthcare organizations and surgeons seeking accreditation by SRC undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site inspection. Status as an accredited Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery means that Portsmouth Regional Hospital along with Master Robotic Surgeons Akhil Sastry, M.D. and Bernard Benedetto, M.D., have met nationally recognized standards.

“Not all hospitals and surgeons seek accreditation, and not all that undergo the rigorous on-site inspection process are granted accreditation,” said Sastry. “This accreditation recognizes the surgeons and clinical team at Portsmouth Regional Hospital as the region’s leader in minimally invasive robotic surgery and confirms its achievement of the highest standards for patient safety and care quality.

The inspection is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization and/or surgeon improve care and services and includes physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in the accredited program.

“We are extremely proud of our hospital’s robotic team and medical staff members who perform these surgeries,” said Benedetto. “Together we accomplished this world-class designation for our hospital – another example of Portsmouth Regional Hospital’s commitment to delivering the highest level of innovative care to patients here on the Seacoast and close to home.”
