The administration and staff of Portsmouth Regional Hospital are pleased to welcome Sheldon Barr as the new Chief Operating Officer. Sheldon began her career with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) at Henrico Doctors Hospital (HDH) in the Cardiovascular ICU. From there she took over as the Vice President of Emergency and Cardiovascular Services for HCA’s Capital Division.

Sheldon is a graduate of the University of Virginia and earned her Master of Business Administration from Western Governors University. “I believe Sheldon’s clinical background and experience, as well as her honed operational skill set, will be an enormous asset to an organization dedicated to providing the regional community a hospital to be proud of,” said Dean M. Carucci, Portsmouth Regional Hospital CEO. Sheldon’s commitment to the local community in Richmond was acknowledged through her earning the prestigious Frist Humanitarian Award.

Sheldon is an outdoor enthusiast, avid college football and basketball fan. She and her husband Steve are looking forward to getting settled in for their first winter in New England. Sheldon is the proud mother of her daughter Haley who is currently studying architecture at Virginia Tech and will graduate this spring.
