Portsmouth Regional Hospital is pleased to announce that Sean Patterson has been appointed chief executive officer, effective April 1, 2025.

“Sean brings a wealth of experience and a strong track record of leadership within HCA Healthcare, making him an excellent choice to lead Portsmouth Regional Hospital into its next chapter,” said Dr. William Lunn, president of HCA Healthcare Capital Division. “His deep commitment to healthcare leadership, operational excellence, and community engagement will be invaluable as he steps into this role.”

Patterson most recently served as the chief executive officer of TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield, Tenn. where he successfully transformed the hospital’s culture, improved financial performance and expanded service offerings. Under his leadership, NorthCrest saw substantial improvements in patient satisfaction and employee engagement.

Prior to this role, Patterson held multiple leadership positions within HCA Healthcare, including chief operating officer at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, and TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

“Portsmouth Regional Hospital is well-known in HCA Healthcare for providing exceptional care and a great experience,” Patterson said. “I’m looking forward to meeting the teams that bring their best to work every day, to engaging with the greater Seacoast community, and to working with hospital leaders to help identify ways we can best serve our patients.”

Throughout his career, Patterson has led major growth initiatives, physician recruitment efforts, hospital expansions and operational improvements that have strengthened the quality of care and financial performance at each facility.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sean as the new CEO of Portsmouth Regional Hospital. His energy, compassion, and prior experience will fit wonderfully with the rest of the senior leadership team,” said Dr. Katy Lilly, chair of the hospitals’ Board of Trustees. “We look forward to the positive impact he will have on the hospital, the staff and the community we serve.”

A Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), Patterson holds a Master’s in Health Administration and a Bachelors in Biology from the University of Kentucky.
