Syed Peeran, MD, named new Chief of Surgery at Portsmouth Regional Hospital
Syed Peeran, MD, has been elected chief of surgery at Portsmouth Regional Hospital (PRH). As chief of surgery, a position elected by the hospital’s medical executive committee and staff surgeons, Peeran will oversee the hospital’s surgical programs and services and work closely with clinical staff and physicians to ensure that the highest standards of quality and services are provided to patients.
Peeran joined PRH in 2016 and has served as director of vascular surgery since 2019. He is a regional leader in the field of vascular surgery and serves on the executive committee for the Vascular Study Group of New England. He represents the Northeast as a member of the HCA Healthcare Vascular Operations Council, and co-founded the Seacoast Vascular Society Symposiums, held in 2017 and 2019.
“Dr. Peeran’s leadership skills and experience in the surgical field are exceptional and make him an outstanding physician to serve in this position,” said Dean M. Carucci, chief executive officer of Portsmouth Regional Hospital. “He is highly respected by his peers and clinical staff and I am confident he will be extremely effective in leading and elevating our surgical program. It is also a testament to the continued success of the cardiovascular surgery program, which has received numerous accolades in recent months from industry organizations, that the medical executive committee fully supported and elected Dr. Peeran to this very important role.”
Prior to joining PRH, Peeran served as a vascular surgery fellow and clinical instructor at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is double board-certified in general and vascular surgery and is an active fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Peeran earned his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed his general surgery residency at Baystate Medical Center – University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he served as chief resident and was awarded the resident teacher of the year.
“This is an exciting time to lead the surgical services team at Portsmouth Regional Hospital,” Peeran said. “HCA Healthcare is making significant investments in our hospital, including creating a new hybrid cardiovascular operating room, bolstering the robotic surgery program, expanding the trauma service, and updating interventional radiology suites, among other projects. All of these investments, coupled with the commitment of our surgeons and other providers and staff to providing high-quality, compassionate care, will help us better serve our current and future patients.”
