Portsmouth, NH — Portsmouth Regional Hospital (PRH) this week celebrated the milestone anniversaries of 120 colleagues from throughout the hospital for their commitment to caring for our patients and our communities. Colleagues were recognized for anniversaries in five-year increments.

Among those marking a milestone is Georgette Shapiro, RN, who has worked at Portsmouth Regional Hospital for 45 years. Shapiro, who currently serves as a patient advocate, has worked in numerous roles throughout her tenure, including as a nurse and nurse director in the emergency department. Her warm demeanor, sense of humor, and caring and thoughtful attitude has made her well-loved throughout the hospital. From helping to pass food trays to patients, to transporting patients from the ED to a unit, to dressing as Florence Nightingale during Nurses Week, Shapiro can always be counted on to help her colleagues and to bring a smile to both staff and patients.

“Everyone at Portsmouth Regional Hospital knows Georgette (Shapiro),” said Dean M. Carucci, CEO of Portsmouth Regional Hospital. “She is not only a dedicated colleague, she is a mentor, and a friend to many. She always goes above and beyond to care for our patients and doesn’t wait for her colleagues to ask for assistance, she anticipates their needs and jumps in to help wherever she can.”

“Georgette is not just a patient advocate by title, she is a strong advocate in her personal actions,” said Beth York, Vice President of Quality. “If she’s not speaking to or meeting with a patient, she can be found in the emergency department seeing if they need an extra pair of hands, or on a unit doing whatever is needed to take a bit of the burden off the floor nurses. She’s truly one of a kind, and her knowledge of the hospital is unparalleled.”
