At Portsmouth Regional Hospital, you can expect to receive exceptional care to manage your brain cancer diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. Our multidisciplinary approach to brain cancer treatment means you'll work with a team of diverse medical professionals who collaborate to develop a plan to meet your unique needs.
Types of brain tumors
Primary brain cancers originate in or next to the brain. Secondary brain cancers result from cancers that begin in another part of the body and spread to the brain. Brain cancers are described by the types of cells in the tumor. Each grows differently and requires its own particular treatment.
Because the rigid skull offers no space for tumors to expand, brain tumors—whether cancerous or noncancerous—often press on normal tissues or the spine, affecting areas of the brain that control movement, speech, sight or other key functions.
Symptoms of brain tumors often include unusual headaches or trouble seeing, but these symptoms can vary and may not become apparent until the tumor has grown large enough to create unexplained changes in behavior or health.
Other head, neck and neurological cancers
Cancers of other structures and organs in the head, neck and nervous system may be treated in multiple ways, including our minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical techniques.
